Acrylic on board. No references. Inspired by Poe's story "The Masque of the Red Death" I did this painting some time ago, but it seems to fit the current theme rather well.

"...through the years some have claimed it was indeed the Curse; the blood-red stone of ages forgotten, reflecting, multiplying one's madness and greed as if an abyssal lens on the soul. Although none of the Expedition would ever return, the tales of sailors and travelers in distant and dark corners of the world would speak of glimpses in passing - a pale countess in crimson, eyes like embers..."

Instead of doing an entirely red image, I wanted to really show 'red', thusly, red has just escaped from the color wheel.

Was a red pencil drawing, but the quality looked horrible. Touched it up a bit and changed the contrast and coloring.
